James Maxwell District 5
Vice-Chairman Maxwell has been married to China for 50 years and celebrates the joys every day of being blessed with 9 children and 23 grandchildren. Maxwell is the Head Elder at Calvary Christian Center of South Georgia and has been a County Commissioner of Brooks County since 1993. Serving as the current Vice-Chairman of Brooks County Board of Commissioners, Mr. Maxwell is also actively involved with several other organizations in the community; Chairman of the FEMA Board, member of the Board of Health, Board of Coastal Plains Area EOA, Inc., President of South Georgia Foster & Adoptive Parents Association, Inc. and Vice President of the Brooks County Democratic Party.
As a retired Veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Maxwell heroically served our country ultimately being honored and pinned as a recipient of the Purple Heart. In addition, Maxwell has also served as a member of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the State of Georgia.
The Countywide elected Vice-Chairman conducts all Board of Commission (BOC) meetings, prepares and presents the BOC agenda, and appoints Commission members for each BOC standing committee.
